ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān ibn ʿAlī al-Jawzī, often referred to as Ibn al-Jawzī, is one of those unique scholars who combined scholarly excellence with a deep concern for the salvation of the Muslim community. Famed for his knowledge, he was known for being an incredibly gifted orator, with hundreds of thousands of Muslim repenting at his hands over his remarkable lifetime. Born in the year 518 AH, he passed away nearly 80 years later in 597 AH, leaving behind seminal works in the sciences of ḥadīth, tafsīr, and exhortation (waʿẓ) – one of which is between your hands today.
