The ‘A Tentative Guide to Islamic Invocations’ is a personal selection of invocations, all of which claim to be from the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) or from his immediate Companions. In other words, everything in this collection is a transmitted (ma’thur) invocation. Apart from a single narration (which is traceable to the Tabi‘ al-Tabi‘in Imam Sufyan al-Thawri [97–161 ah/716–778 ce] and who arguably would not have related it without a now-lost chain of transmission to the Prophet (SAW)), there are no non-transmitted invocations here from any of the great figures of Islamic history and spirituality after the Companions of the Prophet (SAW).

he author of the book, HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, seems to have worked really hard to compile the invocations from reliable sources. They have been compiled in a very systematic order as though jewels and pearls have been collected on a piece of string.He has concentrated on mentioning the benefits of the invocations, and this gives the reader some motivation to practice. It also keeps the reader’s feet on the ground and prevents pride by revealing exactly what he or she is getting in return. So if we study the book and show some consistency in applying it, we will quickly feel the benefits and reap the rewards in-sha- Allah.
